About the Prize

The NYC Hayes Innovation Prize is a coming together of two previous public service awards, Fred Hayes Innovation Prize and NYC[x] Technology & Innovation Award, that honors excellence and fosters community building.

The Hayes Prize

The Hayes Prize began in 2005 to honor the legacy of Frederick O’Reilly Hayes by recognizing dedicated, forward-thinking City officials early in their careers. Fred Hayes was the NYC Budget Director under Mayor John Lindsay and a devoted public servant and innovator of City and federal government management practices.

The Frederick O’Reilly Hayes Foundation is made up of friends of Fred Hayes and former prize winners. It is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization and financially supports the Prize.

NYC[x] Tech & Innovation Awards

The NYC[x] Tech and Innovation Awards began in 2021 by the CTO to acknowledge and encourage outstanding and creative individuals and tech and non-tech-related innovation initiatives within City government.
